LORDE, or formally known as Ella Yelich-O'Connor, is the 16 year old New Zealand sensation taking over the world. It is always refreshing to hear music that challenges the way one thinks. The song has a pull that in undeniable. From the moment the low warped hum sounds, the listener's body craves more; only to be satisfied by a hip hop beat paired with a smooth raspy ballad. Royals is the honest pop song. The lyrics draw attention to the lack of reality presented in popular music today. LORDE sings about a different dream, a dream where life is fantasy and believing the dream makes the fantasy reality. The chorus is as follows: And we'll never be royals, It don't run in our blood, That kind of lux just ain't for us, we crave a different kind of buzz. Let me be your ruler - you can call me queen bee, And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule Let me live that fantasy. Music is an escape from reality but Royals gives a new meaning to the term royalty. Be proud of where you are from and who you are. | LORDE's music has a maturity that is beyond her years. At the age of merely 16, she has a grasp on what matters in her life. I love the line, We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair. How more perfect can that be? The world does not need to hear another love song or break up song about your 3 month publicity relationship. I feel that quote is a burn toward Taylor Swift but she is too naive to ever realize. From hearing this song, I know I need to buy LORDE's debut album: Pure Heroine to be released in September. Royals is a song that is on fire and I would call this song, my song of the summer because it doesn't have that annoying factor like last summer's Call Me Maybe or this summer's Get Lucky or Blurred Lines. -cynical sugar |
