Red Vines Vs. Twizzlers

There is an old debate in the candy world.  Who has the best licorice?  Is it the classic Red Vines or the multi-flavored Twizzlers.  For today's critique I focused on the original flavors Red Vines " " and Twizzlers "strawberry." (Sorry SuperRope lovers that candy string is in its own category.)

Red Vines
From the moment the candy graces your tongue the rigid texture brings out the sweetness of the licorice.  It has a soft chew with a bouncy release.  I love this candy, I think it has nostalgic value that is undermined by other licorice these days.  I did the pop test and Red Vines have perfected the hollowed center for the best drinking of a A&W rootbeer.  Also after 10 minutes in my pop the candy
disintegrated.  There was only 5 ingredients listed on the package and I enjoyed my experience.  The after taste is the same as brushing your teeth with the children's bubble gum toothpaste... not terrible but unpleasant.

Twizzlers
What is with this licorice?  There is no sweet coating and the candy is super dense.  Twizzlers find their way to wedge between your molars and live there forever to rot your teeth into nothingness.  Did the pop test on this one too and woah... this candy just made the pop keep fizzing.  The straw was terrible and did not allow for adequate amount of pop flow.  It also never disintegrated!  There are so many more things in this candy; I counted and on the package there were 16 DIFFERENT things listed.  The after taste is similar to the red vines with a bubble gum toothpaste - maybe there's licorice in my toothpaste?

Overall, Red Vines win in flavor today.  Even though it is not the most pleasant, there is a never ending flavor experience.  Twizzlers taste like crayons and have at least 10 more ingredients than Red Vines.  I'm critiquing candy so don't think that health is going to play a huge roll in my over all decision.  Twizzlers take 30 seconds to chew before the crayon taste because a mild strawberry.  Red Vines have nostalgia on their side and even though they are more expensive they are the better choice but licorice is a shitty excuse for a candy... its only good trait is the ability to become so many different things such as a straw, snorkel, mustache, walrus tusks and the list goes on... and if size matters?  You can see who's twist is longer... (Red Vines)

Candy everyday, keeps the bitch away.
