Following is an action that requires little thought and effortless resistance. A follower is someone who does not demand change and sticks to the status quo. But the status quo is a measurement of yesterday, it should have no relation with today. With the logic of status quo, it would mean because I am a mid-class female than I should only do things of that nature. Work to find a husband. Marry to build a house and raise a family. I am not saying that isn’t a wonderful option to live life by, I’m just saying its not for everyone, especially me. And to follow the standards set before, then people are acting because of what they are told to do. People do what is expected instead of acting from desire. There is a time to follow and a time to lead. Here’s a social example for you: You are with a few friends and no one can decide on where to go for supper. Do you follow the trend of going back and forth about which place to go or do you say a definite answer? An answer with I want instead of I think. Personally, I say I want because who knows how long this nothing discussion will last when I’m hungry. |   |
